Bowfeast coming Aug. 16!
There’s nothing like sitting in your patio chair, reaching over and plucking a handful of ripe, sun-warmed blueberries. Ahhhh, summertime! The harvest is at its peak, and it’s almost time to make the rejoicing official. “Bowfeast,” our second annual, is coming Sat., August 16. Mark your calendar.
Bowfeast is a day to celebrate local eating and honour our island farmers who amazingly coax delicious fruit and veggies from this rocky soil. Invite your friends and find as much local food as you can to create your own Bowfeast! If you can’t do 100 percent Bowen-grown, try to do all-BC or all-regional (British Columbia, Alberta, California, Washington, Oregon).
This year’s Bowfeast includes a farmers’ and growers’ market on the grass just up the hill from the Bowen library from 9 am to noon on Sat., Aug. 16. Anyone can show up and sell produce; just bring your own little table and chair. So far, seven Bowen farmers have agreed to sell fruit, veggies, eggs and more.
FOLLOW THE GREEN BALLOONS: we’ll set a cluster of green balloons anywhere where Bowfeast activities are taking place, so be on the look-out.
A growing list of retailers — including The Ruddy Potato, Bowen Island Cold Beer & Wine Store, Phoenix on Bowen, the Happy Italian — have signed on with special Bowfeast offers. Stay tuned… we’ll report more next week.
Bowfeast is produced by OneDayBowen, a green grassroots organization pursuing local solutions to global challenges.
See you at Bowfeast,
